The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our close-knit commercial Legal team at Coda in Amsterdam, supporting a fast-growing business across fintech, payments, ecommerce and digital platforms.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop your skills and gain valuable experience in a truly international, digital-first company. You'll work in a dynamic, collaborative environment, with exposure to both our European businesses and the wider global Coda group.

The role is ideal for a commercially minded, proactive lawyer who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, applying legal expertise creatively and pragmatically to support business growth.

You will report to the Lead Counsel, Europe, who is based in India, and work closely with our global legal team and stakeholders across the company.

What You'll Do

  • Provide end-to-end legal support to Coda’s European businesses, advising on commercial contracts, product-related matters, corporate issues and general legal queries

  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of customer, partner, vendor and technology agreements, providing pragmatic advice on deal structuring, risk allocation and regulatory requirements

  • Act as a trusted legal partner to Product, Commercial, Engineering and Operations teams, supporting product launches, new features and go-to-market initiatives

  • Take ownership of key legal matters and projects, working independently and proactively while balancing commercial priorities and legal risks

  • Support strategic initiatives, including M&A projects, disputes, European regulatory matters and cross-border projects involving Coda’s global businesses

  • Collaborate with global legal, compliance, corporate secretarial, investigations and regulatory teams to ensure effective and consistent legal support across Europe

  • Contribute to the development of legal processes, templates and playbooks to support the business's continued growth and international expansion

  • Work closely with senior business stakeholders and the Lead Counsel, Europe, acting as a key legal point of contact for European matters and ensuring alignment on priorities and risks

What You'll Have

  • A Dutch-qualified lawyer with a Master’s degree in Law, preferably from a Dutch university, and at least 7 years of relevant experience in commercial or corporate law, ideally gained in-house or at a leading law firm

  • Strong experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts, with sound commercial judgement and a pragmatic, business-focused approach to managing legal risk

  • Experience in fintech, payments, e-commerce, SaaS or digital platforms, with a good understanding of payments regulations and frameworks, including PSD2/PSD3, AML and EMD

  • Familiarity with handling commercial disputes, investigations and related legal matters

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Dutch and English, with the ability to explain complex legal matters clearly and concisely

  • Proactive, independent and hands-on, with the confidence to take ownership of legal matters, manage competing priorities and seek support when needed

  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams, jurisdictions and time zones in an international environment
