Job description

Position Summary

Working hours: Based at UHS

EXPECTED OUTPUTS

  1. A multi-year research roadmap including at least 2 ongoing research projects per year, including a project related to health policy, health financing or health systems; and the development of at least 2 funding proposals per year;
  2. A research valorization portfolio including at least 2 abstracts submitted to national/international conferences; and 2 to 3 articles submitted to peer-reviewed journals, including at least 1 publication per year;
  3. Policy briefs and technical reports disseminated to relevant government, donor and stakeholder audiences;
  4. Mentoring of research assistants involved in the research fellow's projects
  5. An annual research performance report including metrics, challenges and recommendations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design, implement and manage research projects in health policy, health systems and health financing, according to the themes and priorities of the GHRC;
  • Ensure the supervision of implementation and data collection; conduct quantitative and economic analyses, interpret and evaluate research data to produce meaningful conclusions;
  • Write and publish peer-reviewed articles; elaborate research reports and policy briefs; present findings at conferences, seminars and policy forums;
  • Identify funding opportunities and write proposals to support research projects, including in health financing and UHC-related topics;
  • Participate in the mentoring of young researchers, students and research assistants;
  • Comply with the assignments of the GHRC Director and the Project Manager.

Qualifications

  • Phd is preferred
  • Master's Degree in Public Health, Health Economics, Epidemiology, Political Sciences, Economics, Social Sciences, or a closely related field is required

Work History

  • Research on health systems, health policy or health financing, with a proven record of at least 1 peer-reviewed publication and/or presentations at conferences for 1 year as a minimum

General & Technical Skills

  • Experience in multidisciplinary research and engagement with external partners (research institutions, public sector, donors, international organizations and other stakeholders) is an asset;
  • Tracking deadlines, and supervising young researchers is required, and experience in managing research projects is an asset.
  • Proficiency in statistical software and data analysis tools such as R, Stata, or Excel for data cleaning, visualization and modelling of health outcomes and costs; familiarity with economic modelling tools is an asset;
  • Technical competence in health financing strategies, including strategic purchasing, resource allocation, and national health accounts, with a focus on achieving universal health coverage (UHC) is considered an asset;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for the elaboration of reports, policy briefs, proposals and the presentation of findings to both academic and non-specialist audiences;
  • Understanding of research governance, ethics, funding mechanisms and institutional partnerships;

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking, with particular aptitude for quantitative and economic analysis;
  • Autonomy and ability to work in multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary collaborations;
  • Strong time management and organizational abilities.
